ANSWER
MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF ENVIRONMENT, FOREST AND CLIMATE CHANGE
(SHRI ASHWINI KUMAR CHOUBEY)

(a)to (e) Familial Forestry means caring for the tree as a family member so that the tree becomes a part of the family’s consciousness. The UNCCD, while recognizing the concept, has stated that, Familial Forestry of Rajasthan, India is a unique concept that relates a tree with a family, making it a green "family member." This movement involved more than a million families from more than 15,000 villages of desert-prone northwest Rajasthan. About 2.5 million saplings have been planted in the past 15 years, with active participation of students and desert dwellers, as per the UNCCD. This green or eco socialization brings environmental sensitivity and empowerment. With this emphasis and in consonance with the Mission LiFE that has been launched by the Prime Minister, Ministry of Environment, Forest & Climate Change (MoEF&CC) has taken various initiatives that promote tree plantation/ afforestation as people’s movement through School Nursery Yojana and Nagar Van Yojana. Tree plantation/ afforestation being the multi-departmental effort, taken up cross sector by various departments of the Centre and State Governments, Non-Government Organizations, civil society, corporate bodies etc. Government is implementing several schemes/programmes to combat desertification through increasing forest cover.

Various afforestation related schemes implemented by MoEF&CC and other ministries aim at increasing and improving forest and tree cover and thereby combating desertification. MoEF&CC supports the States/Union Territories for carrying out various afforestation activities through Centrally Sponsored Scheme for conservation, development and promotion of forests under its major schemes namely, National Mission for a Green India (GIM) and Forest Fire Protection & Management Scheme (FFPM). Compensatory afforestation under CAMPA has also been used to increase forest cover across the country. State Governments also implement various schemes for tree plantation/afforestation.

The Ministry has issued several advisories for involvement of people encouraging their participation in various tree plantation programmes on occasions like Van/ Haryali Mahotsav, World Environment Day, and World Forestry Day etc. States and UT Governments carry out various afforestation drives to achieve their afforestation targets including mass plantation drive involving public participation.
